Today we are going to participate in a science experiment which is linked to the Australian Science Curriculum.
Year 2 Science Understanding – Chemical Sciences: different materials can be combined, including by mixing for a particular purpose (ACSSU031): http://www.australiancurriculum.edu.au/Science/Curriculum/F-10#level=2investigating the effects of mixing materials together.

Let’s make a bottle rocket.
Resoucrces you willrocket:
What we need:
WhiteVinegar
Safety Goggles
A 600ml pop-top type bottle
White vinegar
Bi-carbonate of soda A 600ml Pop-top Bottle
Plastic cup
Paper towel WhatPlastic cup
How to do
1. Pour somemake it:
Put on safety goggles
Pour white vinegar into the rubber glove, enough oplastic bottle and a third fill bottle.
Place a coupletablespoon of fingers.
2. Add in aboutbi-carbonate soda onto one spoonfulsheet of bicarbthe paper towel.
Quickly replace top on bottle.
Turn bottle upside down and quickly tie upplace in plastic cup.
Stand back and see what happens.
What is happening to the open end.
3. What happens?
1. Pour somewhite vinegar intoand bi-carbonate soda?
Use the bottle,Predict, Observe and Explain table to document your science experiment.

Discussion:
Talk to students about one third full.
2. Quickly add a heaped spoonpast learning and chemical science experiences.
Discuss how the ingredients and equipment are to be used.
Discuss safety requirements.
Encourage students to participate in all aspects of bicarb (usinglearning.
Watch a paper slide or funnel if that helps) and screw
the lidYouTube video on tightly to keep the pressure in.
3. Turn the bottle upside down and place itrocket experiment.

Engage students in a discussion drawing on their prior knowledge, e.g. when they made a volcano in Year 1.
(Refer to Year 1 Science Curriculum http://www.australiancurriculum.edu.au/Science/Curriculum/F-10#level=1)
Discuss the cup so it is held pointing upwards.
4. Watch and wait.properties of the chemical used.
